FATA Reforms, Welcome, A lot needs to be done

The August 2011 FATA reforms from the Pakistan government is a welcome step from FATA. But this should not be considered as the goal or objective, this is just a small step for empowering tribal people and bringing them in far with other parts of the country.
Now onward the civil society organizations, Youth of the FATA, Educational institutions, Media, Political parties would have to play an active role in guiding the political process.
The tribal people should not be guided to that autocratic sort of politics which is prevalent in most of the country. Where the parties mean a few families, if the father or mother dies his or her offsprings ultimately become the next leader of the party. If the party act is to be extended to FATA, at this time the FATA people should be guided on democratice values, Leadership should be based on competencies and the work done for the society not on decend from certain ancestors.

In addition to the political parties act and ammendments in FCR, this is the voice of the time to hold local government election in FATA. Regular elections for local government in FATA will not only help in solving the issues of the local people on their door step but will also nurture indigenous leadership. Let the FATA people talk for themselves, let them plan and acto for themselves and you will not need to control militancy from them. They are as peace loving as any other person on the earth, but they need same human rights as available to other human beings on the earth.
